Study Shows Regular Cannabis Users Have More Sex

If you’re a regular weed smoker, you might just be having more sex, according to a new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. In fact, the study found that daily marijuana users are having sex 20 percent more often than those who aren’t 420-friendly.

Researchers from Stanford University’s School of Medicine looked at data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Survey of Family Growth, which asked participants how many times they had heterosexual sex in the past four weeks and how often they smoked weed in the past year.

Women who abstained from marijuana had sex an average of 6.0 times during the previous month, while those who smoked had sex an average of 7.1 times. Men who abstained had sex an average of 5.6 times during the previous month, while those who smoked had sex an average of 6.9 times.

The study’s authors cautioned that the increase isn’t necessarily cause-and-effect. However, the relatively large sample size of more than 50,000 Americans between the ages of 25 and 45 is notable.

“The overall trend we saw applied to people of both sexes and all races, ages, education levels, income groups and religions, every health status, whether they were married or single and whether or not they had kids,” senior author Michael Eisenberg said in a press release.

The association even held regardless of the participants’ use of other drugs like cocaine and alcohol.

A 2015 survey by the National Institute on Drug Abuse showed that 22 million Americans use marijuana, and with more states legalizing the drug, that use is sure to go up. And while we can’t say for sure that smoking weed leads to more boot-knocking, it doesn’t seem to hurt.
